Sanborn: “our people make the difference”
Sanborn was started as a major railroad town. With a population of
1353, Sanborn offers an excellent climate for businesses. Sanborn is
the home of an award-winning Golf & Country Club, a 2.3 mile asphalt
walking trail, and swimmers will enjoy the outdoor public pool on hot
summer days. The main community event in Sanborn is the Sanborn
Railroad Day held each summer in commemoration of the railroad
heritage of Sanborn.
Hartley: “the city with a heart”
Hartley, with a population of over 1700, was founded as a railroad
station in 1879. Hartley boasts a newly remodeled swimming pool,
summer recreation programs, two beautiful parks, a new library and a
large, modern community center. Several new housing areas have sprung
up and more are in the planning stages.
Primghar: “The
only Primghar in the world"
Named by the initials
of its founding fathers, Primghar maintains it’s rich heritage. The
town of Primghar was formed in 1872. Primghar has a population of 891.
It is home to
the O’Brien County Courthouse and Jail. Primghar
offers a unique golf course, challenging local golfers. The only
banked figure 8 racetrack in the United States is located in Primghar.
Primghar provides entertainment and fun for surrounding communities
during O’Brien County Fair Week. Progressive

Paullina: “the best little city in Iowa”
Paullina is an excellent business community. With a population of
1124, a spirit of excellence and harmony are prominent in the growth
of businesses and industries that market products and services
throughout the nation and abroad. The parks and recreational
activities provide year-round variety to families. Paullina is a
progressive and aggressive city committed to an improved quality of
life and a prosperous climate for economic development.
Summary:
All four communities, Sanborn, Hartley, Primghar and Paullina are
proud of their municipally owned utilities, keeping revenues within
the communities for the benefit of their citizens. The school systems,
public and private, provide excellent education and are respected
throughout the state. Health services and emergency care are provided,
along with volunteer fire departments in each town. The many varied
religious congregations offer spiritual diversity to the communities.
Iowa is a safe place to live and work, ranking 41st in the country in
regard to violent crimes.
